Bright, fast, always amused
The Hustler
Washington Square Park energy. Will take your money and narrate the process.
“The Italian. Groundbreaking. My grandmother plays the Italian.”Meet at the board
THE OPPONENTS
Choose a patient guide, a worthy rival, or someone who takes your Tuesday night game far too seriously. Same chess engine. Very different chemistry.

Bright, fast, always amused
Washington Square Park energy. Will take your money and narrate the process.
“The Italian. Groundbreaking. My grandmother plays the Italian.”Meet at the board

Warm, unhurried, precise
Patient and specific. Never condescending, never vague.
“That knight had one job and you just gave it a second one. Look at f7 with me.”Meet at the board

Quiet, clipped, matter-of-fact
Announces the move. Says “good game.” That’s the whole relationship.
“Knight f3.”Meet at the board

Low, assured, theatrical
Calls your Tuesday night game like it’s the World Championship.
“And there it is. The queen steps out, and the entire kingside holds its breath.”Meet at the board

Smooth, loose, rambling
Used to be pretty good, apparently.
“Back in ’85 I nearly beat a guy who once played a grandmaster. Anyway. Move the pawn thing. The front one.”Meet at the board
Every persona plays differently, not just talks differently. The Hustler gambits. The Stoic grinds. The Uncle hangs pieces and blames the kids.
PERSONALITY ≠ DIFFICULTY
Every persona plays at whatever level you set. The character and the challenge are separate choices.
YOUR CHALLENGE. YOUR CHOICE.
Plays sound moves, punishes obvious mistakes, occasionally overreaches. This is where most improving players find a real game.
The levels above are claims you can judge at the board. A rating is a claim about results against rated players; until we have measured that under real game conditions, attaching one would be a guess dressed up as a fact. When calibration is complete, we will publish the numbers and the method together.
COFFEEHOUSE PRO
Write how they talk, what they play, what annoys them, and they show up at the board.
“A calm tactician with a dry sense of humour. Loves an endgame. Pretends not to care when I win.”
